College Rankings 2011: Most Rigorous - The Daily Beast →
12. Mount Holyoke College
17. Harvard University
For students immigrating to the United States for their higher education, Newsweek ranks the 25 schools that provide a diverse environment, as well as financial aid and services to help with adjustment.
Methodology: To find the best 25 schools for international students we relied on four data points: each college’s score for diversity from College Prowler, which takes into account student responses and statistics on whether the school has, among other things, international students with a large presence on campus; the amount of financial aid per international undergraduate student receiving financial aid with data from theCollege Board; the percentage of student services compared to total core expenses with data from theNational Center for Education Statistics; and the percent of international students among the total undergraduate population, also from the NCES. Each data point was weighted equally using z-scores (a measure of how close or distant each school is to the average within each category).
“Several of Greater Springfield’s institutions rank among the most prestigious and well-financed in the world. For example, Amherst College, 15 miles (24 km) north of Springfield, consistently ranks as America’s #1 liberal arts college. Smith College, 13 miles (21 km) north of Springfield, consistently ranks among America’s top 10 liberal arts colleges. Mount Holyoke College – the United States’ first women’s college – consistently ranks among America’s Top 15 colleges, and it is located only 9 miles (14 km) north of Springfield.”—
Was that really necessary? I mean, really— why do you care so much?
When I’m away from the Valley and meet someone from a sister school, I’m happy to meet them. Seeing a post like this makes me glad I picked Mount Holyoke over Smith. Smith campus is full of wonderful people; it’s too bad going there hasn’t elevated your character to their level.
Clearly, this is what happens when I’m away from Smith for too long…
Hooray for finding friends on the feminist tag!
The plot concerns a Jewish crime fighter known as the Hebrew Hammer who must save Hanukkah from the evil son of Santa Claus who wants to destroy Hanukkah and make everyone celebrate Christmas.
Do Women need more degrees than Men? →
The study’s other main finding is that a woman generally needs more degrees than a man in order to earn the same amount of money. For example, the average woman must obtain a Ph.D in order to keep pace with the average bachelor’s degree-holding man.
“The women’s story is grand and dismal,” concluded Carnevale. After scanning all 171 majors included in the study, he found not one major where women consistently out-earn men.
The report also found similar gaps by ethnicity and race. For instance, African Americans and Latinos earn less money than their white peers — even those whites with less education. Further, the average African American or Latino with a master’s degree doesn’t exceed the lifetime earnings of white bachelor’s degree holder. Finally, the report concluded that Asian Americans with graduate degrees earn more than all other races, including whites.
Color me SHOCKED.
This is generally my response to the, “But women are getting MORE degrees, it’s MEN who are disadvantaged!”. Yeah, they’re getting more degrees and less work. Kind of defeats the purpose of a degree.
Word. I’ve got the best part of two degrees at top level from world-leading institutions and i can’t even get interviews for jobs, even school-leaver jobs, much less wages on a par with men who’ve the same qualifications.
Ho-ly shit.
*sigh*
